Nitrous Oxide & Hospital Care
A little more support for your little bird.
Some children settle into the dental chair with curiosity. Others arrive with a few butterflies. We make room for both.
At Windsong, comfort starts with listening. We’ll get to know your child, talk through their needs, and explain the options that may help them receive care.
Nitrous Oxide
A calmer moment in the chair
Nitrous oxide, sometimes called laughing gas, is mixed with oxygen and breathed through a small nose mask. It can help children feel more relaxed while they stay awake and able to respond to our team.
Before and after the visit
We’ll review your child’s health history to decide whether nitrous oxide is suitable and share preparation instructions. Its effects usually wear off quickly after it is stopped. Before you leave, we’ll check that your child is ready and explain any aftercare for their dental treatment.
Hospital Care
More support when it’s needed
For some children, treatment under general anesthesia in a hospital or surgical center may be appropriate. This can include children with extensive treatment needs or medical, developmental, or anxiety-related challenges that make office care difficult.
Under general anesthesia, your child is fully asleep. An anesthesia team administers the anesthesia and monitors them while dental treatment is completed.
We’ll help you understand the plan
We’ll review your child’s health and dental needs, explain the benefits, risks, and alternatives, and discuss the arrangements for their care. If this approach is recommended, we’ll explain preparation, recovery, and who to contact with questions.
You don’t have to know all the answers before we talk. That’s what we’re here for.
